Marriage Preparation

The Sacrament of Matrimony

Congratulations on your engagement! We are delighted to have your wedding at Holy Redeemer by the Sea Parish/Holy Trinity by the Sea Chapel, where you will begin your life together as husband and wife.

Marriage is a sacrament, representing both a joyful promise and a solemn commitment. It is a spiritual event, where the loving bond of marriage symbolizes the mystical union between Christ and His Church. Receiving the sacrament of Marriage in a church holds significant meaning for the couple. It represents the joining of families and the beginning of a new, holy mission in the couple's life. Weddings are sacred occasions, and it is fitting that they take place in a sacred space, a Catholic Church.

What is your first step?

The couple should contact the parish office at hrbtskittyhawk@gmail.com to obtain a wedding application packet. We ask that only the bride or groom make inquiries. Ideally, this initial contact should occur at least nine months before your desired wedding date. This timeframe allows the priest or deacon to guide you through the marriage preparation process.

Non-Parishioner Weddings

If you are planning a wedding at Holy Redeemer by the Sea or Holy Trinity by the Sea Chapel, you must provide a priest or deacon to officiate. The pastor needs to approve the visiting priest or deacon, who must adhere to all policies of Holy Redeemer by the Sea. If the officiating priest or deacon is from outside the Diocese of Raleigh, he must submit a letter of suitability from his bishop or superior, affirming that he is in good standing with full faculties. Once the necessary documentation is provided by the officiating priest, the Holy Redeemer by the Sea pastor will grant delegation for the ceremony.

Please note: We do not celebrate weddings during the Lenten season.
