Our Story
Holy Redeemer by the Sea Catholic Parish has been serving the Outer Banks since 1929, when our story began with a single devout Catholic woman hosting Mass in her home.
From these humble beginnings, we've grown into a vibrant faith community that welcomes thousands of worshippers each season.
Our beautiful church in Kitty Hawk, dedicated in 2001, stands as a testament to our parish's remarkable journey of faith, perseverance, and growth.
We are a diverse Catholic community that warmly welcomes visitors, serves all God's children, and gathers to worship as one Faith Community.
Guided by the teachings of Jesus Christ and enriched by the spirituality of St. Francis DeSales, we reach out to serve the broader Outer Banks community through various ministries and our commitment to peace, justice, and ecumenical fellowship.
Our Holy Father - Pope Leo XIV
Pope Leo XIV is a United States citizen and a naturalized citizen of Peru. He is the first pope from North America, the first from Peru, and the second from the Americas after Pope Francis. He is the first pope from the Order of Saint Augustine. His papal name was inspired by Pope Leo XIII, who developed Catholic social teaching.
